Hire Me to Edit Your Book

Are you working on a thesis, a novel, or a journal article? Are you thinking about turning your testimony into a book? I’ll help get your manuscript into shape, ready for you to find an agent or to self-publish. Whether your project is business writing, creative writing, or spiritual writing, I can help you at any stage, including brainstorming, ghostwriting (within certain limits), grammar editing, organizing, fact-checking, etc.

How to Contact Me:
Please email me at watchman6267 at yahoo dot com with a short description of your project. Include your current word count, your goals and target audience for the project, and the type of editing (see below) you would like me to do.

Editing services: I offer several types of editing services.

  1. Substantive editing: clarifying or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure.
  2. Stylistic editing: clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, and polishing
    language.
  3. Copyediting: editing for grammar, usage, spelling, and other elements of style.
  4. All of the above.
  5. I also offer an sample edit to give both author and editor a chance to see each other’s work before committing to a months-long process. For $25, I will read a portion of your manuscript and give you editing suggestions about organization, tone, etc. You’re not obligated to hire me afterward, but if you do, I’ll take $25 off the fee for the whole book.

Qualifications:

  • I currently work as an editor for a publishing house.
  • I have a B.A. in Writing and have studied business and creative writing.
  • During college, I completed a four-month editing internship working for three magazines, nationally distributed by the North American Media Group.
  • I have been employed at two different college Writing Centers, working one-on-one with students from a wide range of backgrounds on a variety of projects.
  • I have editing experience with novels, non-fiction, papers, and business composition.

Rates: My rates vary, depending on the type of editing needed and the word count of your manuscript. (I offer discounts to IHOPers.) Tell me about your project and we can discuss.

Schedule: The time it will take to edit your manuscript will depend on how long your manuscript is and what type of editing you would like me to do. I am generally able to devote 10-15 hours a week to a freelance project.

Payment methods: I’m open to cash, check, or PayPal.

Clips: Samples of my editing work are available upon request.

Endorsements:

“It was my pleasure to work with Jennifer S. this past year on our book . . . She has the ability to edit content without changing the voice of the author. Her suggestions were helpful and informative. The finished product was a much better book because of her incredible skills as an editor. I cannot recommend her enough! I will be using Jennifer in all of my future projects.” —Tom Cole, co-author of Pure Heart: Restoration of the Heart through the Beatitudes and Director of the Foundations Department at IHOP–KC.

“Working with Jenn was an all-around pleasant experience. She treated my manuscript and me with great respect, resulting in a drastically improved novel. Her editing suggestions helped bring my message forth with clarity, all the while remaining true to the original content. I am immensely grateful for her professional work.” —Sarah Hanks, author of Drifting In and Out of Sleep

Ok. I kind of never realized you were a real writer person. Now I am scared to let you read my silly sci fi stories. Ack!

Also, I harbor a secret passion to be an editor at IHOP. Want an assistant?
