Spring at last; the Cylons invade my desktop
I think this is the first time we’ve had the deck door open since the fall. It’s breezy and nice out, around 75º, and I’m…inside working on a freelance project. Hmm. Oh well, I’ll finish up in an hour and go out for a quick walk.
It was also warm in Texas this weekend (of course, when is it not warm in Texas). I drove down with Holden and Crystal for Amy’s wedding. She’s the first of my little circle of friends to get married, and sadly she doesn’t live in KC any more so we can’t steal her from her hubby. Dangit! Anyway, the wedding was super nice in this cute little chapel, and we were glad to be there to witness it. (In more ways than one. Let’s just say that Holden’s iPhone GPS came in handy during this trip.) We came home to a couple inches of snow but it didn’t take long to melt. I daresay spring is here.
The only thing bad about spring is that it means my beloved Battlestar Galactica is ending. In its honor I have rethemed my desktop, because I am exactly this nerdy:
That Centurion just makes me want to work harder. And to play a BSG FPS. Please, someone create or mod an FPS so I can shoot me some toasters.
(Icons can be found here, here and here; wallpaper here. Other indications of nerdiness include iStats, iTunes controller, Dropbox and a proxy server in the menubar, along with hard drive cloner and six A/V apps in the dock. What I really want is a Viper icon to play with the X-wing icon of my external hard drive.)

How is your area being warmer than mine? I think this calls for a reformulation of physics.
Also, how is it you plan to play games of a Mac? Last I checked they didn’t do that. In any case, a quick google led to this link: http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/game/
However, said link was from a random post on some other blog, so follow with caution. I’ll try to do a better search this evening, assuming I don’t forget.
Virtualization, my friend. I know of at least three programs that will do it. Or, if need be, I can boot into Windows–which requires me to have a copy of Windows, actually. I should get a copy of XP; then I could replay KOTOR and Jedi Outcast. Love running around with lightsabers, even if thermal detonators are sometimes a better solution.
Anyway, that reminds me–I got a free game this Christmas that was developed for the Mac and features ninja rabbits. This promises to be an instant classic. I’ll have to install it and try it out. Especially since SciFi seems to have taken the BSG game down.
I’m pretty sure you’ll find that games don’t exist on Macs.
And instead of WinXP, you could boot to Linux and install Wine. Or maybe Wine will just work on OSX. Hmmm…now I want to install Wine on Cygwin (which emulates Linux on windows), just to see what will happen.
I never got around to playing KOTOR or Jedi Outcast. Paradox’s series of historical strategy games is far to distracting. Also, Firefly.
Ack. I guess Wine would be part of that whole virtualization bit you mentioned. Time for work to be over, already.
Here in Colorado, we have had four days of 70-degree weather. But, since it is now March I’m expecting at least 7 inches of snow in a couple weeks. Colorado is nifty like that.
I’m actually taking my dinner break from the conference during BSG tonight. Yep, I order my Fridays around the show. I’m awesome.
Haha! That’s great. What are your thoughts about the movie–not “The Plan,” but the other one…with Glen Larson? (What the frak.)
i’ve never watched any battlestar galatica. ever.
that’s not saying much. mine is a truly rugby-mad nation and i think i’ve only ever watched one full length rugby game.
i’ve heard of BSG though, do i get sympathy points in the coolness competition??? or at least accent points?? cos i sound cool? get skype and you can hear it again!
Hey, you should watch it; a fellow Kiwi pops up on it every now and then–Lucy Lawless from Xena. (I think I lose cool points and gain geek points for referencing Xena. Story of my life.)
Maybe I will get Skype! You definitely get accent points.
yeah get skype!!! or at least gmail. we can videochat on gmail too. or find some other way to video/voice chat..
lucy lawless. i’ve heard of her (surprisingly.) yes, she’s the xena lady. not that i ever really watched xena.
Hey, I’m on Gmail already! I’ll email you my address and we can chat. Sweet!
P.S. I love the TV show Flight of the Conchords…two Kiwi musicians in New York, weird songs, deadpan humor. I think I may need to move to New Zealand for good some day.
new zealand is God’s tool for restoring Israel… read isaiah 62. the ‘ends of the earth’ (which are nz) get to say to israel ‘look your saviour comes.’
okay, so i’m not sure if it actually all works out like that! but we are God’s 2nd favourite ppl group…
