Oh, the drama

My life is pretty quiet. I have a routine of work, prayer room, martial arts, and low-key hang-outs with friends. I joke that I live vicariously through my friends since nothing much happens to me. Probably the most exciting things in my life are when I discover a sweet new open-source program or a handy tip for making my daily computing tasks more efficient. I’m not even joking, you guys; I can spend hours replacing icons, fooling with widgets or researching Terminal commands. But recently my tinkering caused lots of drama.

Said drama involved:

  • A hard drive crash as the deadline of my freelance project approaches.
  • Three trips to the Apple Store in one week.
  • A warranty coverage issue with the 80 GB hard drive I’d originally ordered vs. the 150 GB hard drive that Apple had accidentally shipped with the computer.
  • A call to an entirely unsympathetic lady at AppleCare. (Ma’am…I’ve been a good customer and bought your ridiculously expensive extended warranty…is it my fault that the Apple tech who refurbished this computer put in a bigger hard drive and didn’t keep the right records?)
  • Finally, an eleventh-hour massive favor from the guys at the Apple Store’s Genius Bar, who stuck it to the man (or the lady, in this case) and gave me another 150 GB hard drive when my warranty only covered an 80 GB replacement.

Mad props to the Genius Bar. They saved me from having to buy another hard drive myself (I plan to keep this computer for several years, and 80 GB is definitely not enough space) and reminded me why I liked Apple in the first place. And biggest props to the Father, who gave me favor with Apple when I prayed for it. He’s so good to me; He cares even about my little computer problems.

I literally skipped out of the store, rejoicing as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. And then I came home to run Software Update and found that, in my absence, my wireless network had decided to rebel.

I put down that mutiny this morning after a protracted struggle and now things are back to normal in my little tech heaven. I have, however, pledged not to mess around with root users, run any more sudo commands, or even think about trying to bridge the modem and router. I’d rather not deal with the drama. I’ve had enough to last me for quite a while.

Wow. Your drama has left me breathless. Actually, I’m glad that this is the type of drama that goes on in your life. I think you don’t have any b/c you’re faithfully followinjg Him. The drama usually(but not always) comes as a result of bad choices (aka “sin”).

one of these days i’m sure God will just be like ‘do this’ and you’ll go do it.

but the thing is, it’ll be completely freakyish

allow me to follow that up… in the midst of moving my car so my sister could leave for work, i sent it without finishing it…

“it’ll be completely freakyish” but one of those spontaneous God-things… that you never imagined you’d do but you will love doing anyway

    1. Your mom is right.
    2. Hmmm…my job consists of dealing with that kind of stuff. I’m not the biggest fan of open source, though.

That is why I am planning to replace my laptop with a desktop in the next couple years. Hello, 1-terabyte standard hard drives.
