How much of a grammar geek are you?
2008 June 15
OK, guys, I know there are some fellow grammar geeks out there in my audience. Take this quiz (no Wikipedia or Google cheating!) and see if you can do better than I did. That shouldn’t be too hard—I only scored 30%.
Some of those questions were really tricky, but still…my score is kinda pathetic. I am a good editor and writer, but I get by on instinct far too often, with an occasional reference to the CMoS only if I need something clarified. I think I need to hit the books. How have I not yet bought a Garner…?
I guess I feel good about my 30% if I’m tied with you
Ouuchhh! I got 20%, and I’m the grammar guy in my group of friends.
Ouch!
My formal studies of grammar have been few and far between…I live on instinct in these realms. I’ve improved on random tense changes in recent years, at least.
I got 30%, but on reading the answers, I disagree with a few. Which is part of the problem. Give me formal grammars, defined in BNF any day. Then I can build a compiler which verifies, absolutely, that your writings are syntactically correct. Semantic correctness is a bit harder to verify…stupid bugs…
Blah! I got 10%…sorry mommy
Grrr at my missing comma!
1 out of 10; I only got #4 right. I hate grammar.
I got 40%. That’s not so great, considering that I taught grammar lessons to 4 kids.
I am a bit concerned that Dylan and Rohan Freak scored so low. I guess I didn’t help my students learn their grammar as well as I would’ve liked. Rohan Freak, there’s still time (evil laugh). Whizzlers, how about it? Will you take the quiz and let us know your score?
mom, that quiz was ridiculous. unless you’re actually like jenn and writing and editing things for a living, I doubt anyone would need to know those questions
Time for what??? Torture??? Yaaaaaaah!!!*runs away screaming*
30%… yeah… haha its been a while since i used my brain.
in my defense… any differences between American and NZ grammar???
