“Run away!” (EDIT NOTE: now with epic fail picture!)

Today I am going to learn how to run away from things and move efficiently while doing so. (I.e., parkour.) This may prove to be a useful skill.

In fact, I was thinking about parkour this morning. I had been having a weird dream in which someone was chasing me. I was running at top speed but couldn’t get away from him. At the very moment I could not run any more, I woke myself up. As I lay there blinking and getting my pulse under control, my first thought was, “I should stop and fight him.” My second thought was, “I should keep running and use my momentum to get away from him with some nifty moves. Huh, I wish I knew some nifty moves.” (My third thought was, “I am analyzing my dream like I’m about to replay a level of a video game. Clearly there is something wrong with me.”)

My friend Laurie has been trying to get me to come do parkour with her for a while now. As I now have a slightly better idea of the self-defense application of parkour, I am eager to learn. We are going to go jump over stuff together in a bit and possibly she will teach me her nifty moves. Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll be very careful and Laurie will spot me.

I think this will also turn out to be good exercise and a good motivator. Maybe when I realize I can’t do more than three pull-ups in a row or run for more than five minutes without needing to collapse, I’ll decide to work out more. I’m such a pansy right now that it’s ridiculous. Useless biceps, ftw!

Edit: Here is a picture of me attempting to run up a brick wall. My foot slipped and I pretty much did a faceplant and slid down the wall. Fail!!
Failed
(There’s a reason they call me “the clumsy ninja.” Though I did make it up to the railing on other attempts.)

What’s funny, is that sometimes I redream my dreams as if they’re video game levels being replayed…

That sounds fun, BTW. Too bad I’m so far away and can’t learn too.

I won’t worry. You know me – always on the side of anything having to do with fitness and health. You’re too young to be out of shape!! I know you’ll get up to speed in no time (pun intended). Love you!!

I hate it whenever I have those kind of dreams when you’re trying to run as fast as you can, but it feels like your slogging through quicksand? Or when you’re trying to hide from someone and you can’t find a good hiding place and the person is bearing down on you! GAAAHHH! I’m freaking out as I’m writing this!
(I once had a dream where I was trying to hide in my dog’s kennel in our laundry room, and the guy was chasing me, and I couldn’t fit in the kennel, but there was no time to look for another hiding spot, so I woke up.) ;)

I’ve just stumbled into this stuff – I was looking for inspiration for some club wear designs and I came across a Parkour video on YouTube…

I really couldn’t believe my eyes at some of the things you can get up to!

There’s a computer game for this stuff too! I suppose that’s for when you need a little rest for your legs. How did I miss this before in my life. I watched a video of someone called Gizmo(?) who was doing this stuff in black and white film days!

Anyway, I’ll try and get some t-shirts suitable for the free movement that determines the grace and power of Parkour.

I’ve put up a blog about it too – I was that impressed!

Maybe I can get some constructive comments back?

    Party on!
