Prophetic art and writing

Continuing with the art theme … yesterday I went to an art fair at the House of Prayer. I wandered around and looked at paintings, cards, jewelry, and clothing. Very cool stuff, especially some of the mixed media. You could tell that each person had created their art as an act of worship. I heard one artist say that she had drawn every single one in the prayer room. Not one stroke was done outside of that place of prayer.

I can’t paint and my drawing skills are limited, but I can write. I would like to further cultivate that ability. I’ve always said I’m too lazy to make a living as a creative writer; instead, I make a living editing what other people have written. I’m not drawn to the struggle of getting published. I don’t want to make a name for myself. But I do have a gift.

Part of me wants to go take a writing class just to brush up on my skills and to get feedback from other writers. That could help. Technique isn’t everything, though.

The L-rd has given me images and lines before, and I’ve crafted poems out of them, some of which you can read on my poetry blog. People have told me that they’ve been greatly blessed by prophetic words that I’ve written out for them. But I feel that I can go further and higher.

I want to contend for more images, for dreams and for messages to communicate. I want to feel G-d’s heart over people as I write. I want Him to use me to minister to other people. I want to write the revelation of His heart for His people. I want the L-rd to teach me how to write. I want Holy Spirit-inspired worship that takes the form of writing.

What about joining (or forming) a writer’s group? You could meet and share about stuff you’re working on, passing things around and sharing critiques. Just a thought.

    I’d agree with you there…
Our prayer room isn’t at all like IHOP, we use CDs and we go more with the 24-7prayer, red moon rising style of setting it up… paper on the walls, interactive prayer things. its usually more individual than corporate…
but i read over my journals from the two years that I was in the prayer room (this half year doesn’t count since i’m out of the country) and remember some of what i wrote on the walls, and its like in some way as I wrote prayers or poetry it began to take shape with the Lord’s heart, or I realised it was prophetic. Sometimes I get frustrated because I know I’m meant to be in some sort of ministry, but I’m not a pastor, I’m not a youth leader and I’m not a speaker… but I can write reasonably when I want to , just need some training. if i ever write a book maybe you can edit it.?

in other news, India is good. The monsoon season just started so theres millions of bugs. This week I’m on prayer focus, so tomorrow we’re going to some famous church here in Goa where St Francis Xavier is mummified (?) and we’re going to pray there. It’ll be sweet. I’ll be home in 27 days… except I’ve told my family I’m going home the day after, so I plan to turn up at my sisters 21st party and surprise everyone, a day before they expect me :) .

@ Mom: There is a writer’s group here at IHOP, but there are lots of strong assertive personalities in it and I doubt I could get a word in edgewise.

    @ Kate: “Mummified”?!

Hi, I found this page while searching for “prophetic arts” something I’ve just recently learned about myself. I too am in your situation. I use to be a very good artist, and God asked me to put that on hold. Now I have actually made an effort to contact some places around me and I am going to take some classes to get me back into the swing. A willing heart is the #1 thing God needs for His new army of Prophetic artists. He is raising us up for the next stage and He not only needs you, but DESIRES for you to desire Him! Press in! Don’t be afraid. We each have to start somewhere!

PS I have a wonderful friend who also is there at the IHOP in K.C.M. and she works at the bookstore. Perhaps you know her. Feel free to email me.

Thanks for listening, and I will pray that you press into this new and awesome thing that God is doing!
